For my Gold Award for Girl Scouts, I am thinking of collecting used shoes in good condition and new shoes to send to Africa or Haiti or some country that is poor and needs shoes. Shoes are very important, especially for those countries since they don't have cars or ways of transportation other than their feet, so not having shoes is a huge health risk (parasites, tetanus, etc). If you know about TOMS shoes, that is where I got the inspiration for this project. I really love their dedication to giving shoes to children in need. So I am looking to see if anybody knows of a good organization to help me send shoes to children in need. Also, it doesn't have to be Africa or Haiti, it could also be New Orleans or poor parts of NYC or Camden, NJ. (I live in NJ - I would love to give to somewhere close, so I could hand deliver the shoes) Please help!! I googled "shoe donation programs" and not much came up.
